Shooting Productions with Remote Cameras

Covering a conference as a single photographer is always a pretty large undertaking. It often means you’re expected to be in two places at once. Thankfully I wasn’t the lead photographer on this meeting in Las Vegas, but was working for my favorite production company, Proscenium. They always want sweeping panoramic of their incredible stage design, lighting and production. With a few remote cameras hidden around the venue I can shoot from multiple locations at the same time, and with each camera timed along with my lead camera I can capture the lighting at its best. I shot these stills with a large selection of cameras including a Fujifilm GFX 50R, Sony A7iii, Sony A9, Fujifilm XF70 and a little Ricoh GR. Both point and shoots are set to a time-lapse setting of every 30 seconds. One of the hardest parts is keeping all the cameras charged.

Accenture Tech Summit Remote Camera Setup

Accenture Tech Summit Remote Camera Setup. I always love using a fixed remote camera at conferences, it gives you a clean plate of the stage and all of the graphics that are designed for the summit. It's a good photographers trick to cover the stage and give yourself a fixed angle that is clean and always the same.

A remote camera at the back of the room is always a good idea especially when they have such an amazing set design and huge LED backdrop. I setup my Canon 5D Mark IV with a Poicket Wizard and just let it tick along as I'm shooting from my roaming camera (Sony A9)

Remote Camera Setup at Conferences and Events

I photograph a lot of amazing conferences and meetings for so many different brands across the country and always try to setup a remote camera or additional wireless camera to act as another photographer from a fixed angel. The remote camera setup allows me to move around more for different and often more creative angels, while I can still guarantee that we have straight images of the stage and speaker setup. I'm often hired by the people who designed and created the stage so I have to document their work as well as photograph the meeting or conference in progress. Often hiding a remote camera can help create an image that wouldn't be possible from a standard photographers perspective, and I like to mount cameras on monopods to reach different angles.

If you need a conference, meeting, party or gala photographed and you think a remote camera would be a nice addition, please don't hesitate to reach out and email me here. I'm always happy to make new contacts and work with new clients. I'm also available for headshots, portraits and lifestyle shoots. I have a great team who can help produce some amazing content.

Los Angeles HD Conference

It's always great to spend some time in Los Angeles especially when I'm hired to photograph a huge motorcycle gathering and conference for such an iconic brand. A huge thanks to the Proscenium team who create these incredible stages and backdrops for these images.
